When I started my career in digital marketing, I knew a handful of sites that can help level up my skills in digital marketing. Today, countless websites offer a variety of tutorials, projects, and other opportunities that gives a first-hand experience. Here are 7 digital marketing projects you can start to level up your digital marketing skills.

As you explore digital marketing and its ever-evolving nature, be open to expanding your skills to at least two or three branches of marketing to remain competitive in the digital marketing industry. Dive into different exciting projects to enhance your digital marketing skills. It’s your ticket to upskill in this ever-changing industry.

If you are good at creating strategic content plans, then producing an actionable content plan should be able to help you learn the ropes fast. Develop a comprehensive content strategy for a website or blog of your choice. You can use Google Sheets or Google Docs to draft your content plans. Once you have your content plan, use Keyword Planner to conduct keyword research this way you can incorporate high to mid traffic keywords into your content. Collate all your content ideas in an editorial calendar to give you a high level overview of your entire content plan.

Producing high-quality content that aligns with the target audience’s interests and needs will be so much easier when you have these things in place. And finally, track the performance of your content using analytics tools, analyze user engagement metrics, and align your strategy based on the results. Search Engine Optimisation, or SEO, is one of my favorites in digital marketing because it follows a specific process that, if done right, it will produce a long-lasting benefit to your website. SEO is essential for driving organic traffic to your website, which requires a relevant topic, keyword research, and other optimization to help boost your website’s traffic in the long run. In 2023, focus on creating high-quality, informative, and keyword-rich content to help your website rank higher in search results. Also, ensure that your website is mobile-friendly, as more and more people are using smartphones to access the Internet.

Perform an SEO audit on your website to identify areas for improvement. Analyze on-page factors, technical SEO elements, and backlink profiles. Generate a detailed report with actionable steps to enhance the website’s visibility in search engine results. Implement the suggested changes and track the website’s performance using SEO tools. This project will deepen your understanding of SEO best practices and equip you with the skills to optimize websites for higher rankings.

Email Marketing Campaigns


You can engage with your customers more effectively with email marketing. It’s a great way to keep in touch with your customers based on demographics and customer insights by creating a targeted sales funnel. Begin by creating an opt-in form on your website or including a signup form in your campaign to begin collecting emails from your customers.

A lot of email campaigns starts by giving out free ebook or PDF to entice target audience with helpful information, in exchange they will have to download the content using their email. Once you have your email list you can design and execute an email marketing campaign to engage and nurture leads. Develop a segmented email list, create persuasive email templates, and set up automated sequences. You can also use automation tools to segment your email list and send targeted messages to different groups of customers. Use EDM tools like Klaviyo, Sendinblue, and more to create your email campaign flow.

Finally, track key metrics like open rates, click-through rates, and conversions. Analyze the results and refine your email marketing strategy based on subscriber behavior and engagement patterns. I thought about becoming an influencer at one point in 2019, and I almost did back when I consistently created content for a year. Because of an experience/review I wrote about Enchanted Kingdom and posts on social, Kerrigan and I were invited to an event for free! And this year, we are planning to return to the content creation scene with better content that is both fun and useful for moms and kids. But becoming an influencer is one of many opportunities out there. You can also choose to be behind-the-scenes and work your magic in managing content creators and influencers and connect them to the right brand. I’ve had a first-hand management experience with influencers a few months back. It requires a marketing plan, a pitch deck and lots of back and forth when managing things around. Never easy, but exciting just the same!

Affiliate Marketing


Affiliate marketing is a great way to drive sales and reach new audiences. My strategy is to combine affiliate marketing with content marketing and promote them on social media. I’ve generated a decent income by incorporating affiliate links in my blogs and videos. This year I will be expanding to Amazon affiliates, and as soon I have enough traffic, I can apply for Shareasale to find generous affiliate partners related to the content I produce. The first step is to find a trusted affiliate partner with products that you vouch for. I have tried most of the products I promote, if not, it’s from the same brand or at a minimum I make sure that I’ve done my research about the product before sharing the affiliate links.

Build a marketing analytics dashboard


Ready to take your marketing skills a level higher? Build a comprehensive marketing analytics dashboard using tools like Google Data Studio or Microsoft Power BI. Integrate data from various marketing channels, such as website traffic, social media engagement, email campaigns, and advertising performance.
